Acting for a Better Europe – The European Dream

Summary of the Erasmus+ online week

Due to the Corona Virus, this Erasmus+-week 2020 was quite different from the week last November. This year we couldn’t travel and had to meet the other students online.

On Monday, we introduced ourselves and our country, city, and school. We listened to the other presentations and talked a bit about the following days. I liked to hear about the different places all the students came from and am happy to have learned more about other European cultures.

On Tuesday, we were put into our groups, separated in different values of the EU, such as solidarity, freedom, peace, democracy, and help. In these teams, we decided on two questions we wanted to ask in the debate on Tuesday. I liked working in the teams and getting to know the students better, as there were new people I didn´t know from last time. I would have preferred to meet everybody in real life, but as this currently isn´t possible, using online platforms is a good alternative for such projects.

On Wednesday, we prepared for the debate and looked up some information to prove our arguments in the discussion. Overall, the debate worked well, although it was slightly chaotic because it was online. Otherwise, I think we discussed some controversial topics, such as abortion, immigration, and voting under 18 years. Finally, we discussed these topics in our class to clear yet open questions. I enjoyed hearing different points of view and sharing my own opinion with the other students on some political topics.

On Thursday, we heard a presentation from a Portuguese teacher, telling us about his journeys across Europe. Afterward, we talked about our dreams for the future of Europe. We brainstormed and divided these dreams into smaller topics, such as education, travel, climate change, equality, and the unification of Europe. Then we prepared presentations in teams.

On Friday, I liked imagining our future Europe and listening to other ideas of a better Europe. I heard some exciting dreams and want to work on more projects regarding Europe. I liked many of the points the other students made. The day went well, and I hope to travel to the other countries soon.

I must say I really liked the idea of this project and loved how it was implemented. I would definitely take the chance to participate a second time in the Erasmus + Project:

I liked that we could learn something about the others countries (Czech Republic, Portugal, Hungary, Italy). What I found a little bit sad was that we couldn´t meet in person and that we couldn´t interact whit them. Also we couldn´t make new friends because it was all with the whole group and you couldn´t speak with just one person about other themes.

I think this week was an awesome way to get to know other European countries and a good opportunity to think about important problems in Europe. I had very much fun this week and think it was a good solution instead of a normal exchange week during COVID-19.

What I liked about this Erasmus+ week was that Corona didn`t stop us from continuing the Erasmus + Project. Also last time just 4 students from each school were able to participate and now everyone who wanted could. I liked the debate and the presentation about our dream Europe.

The downs of the online week were that we couldn´t really exchange with the other students. I think it would have been different if we really met. We could only have contact with them while the online meeting. I still have contact with my exchange student from the last time. But all in all I really loved this week and I am happy I could participate. I really learned something about Europe. I hope the next time we can really meet with the other students again and hopefully our school will offer many more exchange programs in the near future.

It was a very interesting and fun week, but I miss the socialising and the outside activities.

I liked hearing about the different ideas of the other students and their visions for the future. Even though an exchange in person probably would have been a bit more fun than sitting in front of a computer, I liked the experience a lot. Especially because we did discuss some very important problems (e.g. racism, sexism, homophobia and abortion in general as well as the new laws in Poland) and perspectives for the future (e.g. how to manage climate change and maybe even stop it).

I think the Erasmus+ project 2020 was really interesting. I learned many new things by listening to the people of the other countries and by doing my own research for my presentations.

I think this is a good experience for everybody. I look forward to actually seeing the people in real life and visiting the places. I would have wished it to be a little more interactive and next time I hope there will be a little less technical issues.

On Wednesday, a moderator came to ask us the questions that we wrote previously. He was very nice and moderated very well.
